Tributes pour in for Iain Banks, one of Scotland’s literary greats

Iain (M) Banks

Tragic news, literary stalwart Iain (M) Banks has died, aged 59, of gall bladder cancer. By all accounts a sterling bloke, he wrote highly enjoyable and accessible “literary” fiction (in a category of writing often burdened by the pretentious, the narcissistic and the pointless) and equally accessible “hard” sci-fi. His Culture collection of works is among the most beguiling and imaginative legacies of modern literature.

He will be greatly missed.
