Hail Caesar! But who’s the screen king of the Planet of the Apes?

The new Apes movies are superb, and the combo of Andy Serkis’ unique talents and high-quality CGI is incredibly powerful. But for me the sentimental choice will always be Roddy McDowall, one of the most underrated actors of his generation (but much loved in Hollywood circles). The empathy and emotional range he conveyed through his heavy makeup were and still are impressive.
